Griffin Remedy has been formulating natural personal care products in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1996. What started as a single shampoo formula has grown into a 40+ product line spanning hair care, body care, facial care, and bath products—all made with botanicals, essential oils, and vitamins, free from parabens, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances.
Why We Started
We founded Griffin Remedy on a principle: "What goes onto your skin, goes into your body." In 1996, finding truly natural personal care products meant choosing between expensive boutique brands or ineffective alternatives. We saw an opportunity to create effective, affordable natural products by sourcing quality botanical ingredients directly and manufacturing locally in the East Bay.
Our first product was a shampoo formulated with sea buckthorn and orange essential oil. It worked. Customers reordered. We expanded into conditioners, then body wash, then full body care. Nearly 30 years later, we're still manufacturing in the Bay Area, still formulating with the same commitment to clean ingredients.
What Makes Our Formulations Different
Specialized botanical actives: Rather than using generic "natural extracts," we formulate with specific functional ingredients—MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) for skin barrier support, Omega-3 oils from flax and borage for moisture retention, cranberry seed oil for color-treated hair, and soap nut extract for gentle clarifying.
Nine targeted hair care systems: Most natural brands offer one or two shampoos. We formulate nine distinct shampoo and conditioner pairs, each addressing specific hair concerns—from scalp therapy with tea tree oil to age renewal with argan oil and vitamin C.
Refill program: We offer gallon-size refills for most products, reducing packaging waste. Our gallon jugs are reused through partner refill stations in the Bay Area.
Accessible pricing: Our 8oz shampoos and conditioners retail at $11.99, with 32oz and gallon sizes offering better value. We keep costs down by manufacturing locally and selling primarily direct-to-consumer.
The Natural Personal Care Market in 2024
The natural and organic personal care market reached $14.04 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow to $22.7 billion by 2032, driven by consumer demand for clean-label, chemical-free products. Women represent approximately 62% of buyers, with growing interest from male consumers seeking natural grooming alternatives. North America accounts for 34% of the global market, with strong consumer awareness of ingredient safety and transparent labeling.
In this competitive landscape, Griffin Remedy differentiates through specialized formulations (nine hair care systems versus the typical one or two), local manufacturing, and accessible pricing that makes natural personal care available beyond the premium boutique segment.
